1999 S-10 Distributor removal Sign In

Was wondering if anyone can run down the best way of marking and removing the distributor on a 1999 s-10 4.3 vortec engine, so I can install an new intake manifold gasket. Anything would be great. Thanks

You have to mark the position of the outside if the distributor in relation to the manifold (mark something on the housing to align with something in the engine compartment) and mark the rotor position in relation to the distributor housing so you can know exactly how to put it back where is was before removing it.

If when you finish you get a check engine light with a P1345 code, then you missed the mark and you will need a Tech2 scan tool to fine tune it.
It only gives you, I believe 3 degrees either direction before it will put the check engine light on.

Would any of you guys give me a good company brand for an distributor cap and rotor. Is Airtex, American Standard any good? It's for the same 1999 Chevy s-10. Thanks for all the help.

Hmmm? I used to be VERY brand loyal but now it seems anyone can box anything made from anywhere and companies get bought out and you don't know it. I once favored Echlin for anything ignition sold mostly at NAPA I think. I open packages and look for quality right at the counter or historically knew the parts folks as a regular and would ask what's the latest and best,
