Well guys it's me again, while I had the engine almost all torn apart I decided to replace the front main seal. I got the cover off okay got the seal in the cover, but as I was putting the cover back on it would not go back on. I messed with it for awhile, and looking at it you have to loosen the front of oil pan to sneak the rubber gasket in. I guess my question is, is there anything else I will have to do besides loosing the oil pan bolts, or is there more hidden things to do than loosen the bolts enough to get that seal in ?? Thanks for all the help that I have already have gotten. It's the same 4.3 V-6 Vortec engine.

Hello anonymous guest. Haven't seen you in about 15 minutes. You really need to log in if you expect anyone to recognize you. The oil pan is supposed to be removed to remove the timing cover on that engine. The problem is that it's a cast aluminum pan and has no flexibility at all so it's hard to get enough movement to get the cover back on without tearing up the gasket. If you do attempt it. make sure you put some silicone in the corners. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
