2004 Nissan Titan, transmission or transfer case?

2004 Nissan Titan 5.6 SE 4 wheel drive
How would you diagnosis a screeching clanking awful sound under the truck to the transmission or the transfer case. The truck shifts good in 2 wheel and 4 wheel drives. At one point when put in neutral, the wheels turned. I tried to get it to do it again, but only did it that one time. It drives and goes, but sounds like the bottom is going to fall out from under it. This truck only has 42000 miles on it, thats why I Would like to buy it, but if its too much to repair, then I will have to pass.

Take it to a trans shop for diagnosis. There is no way you can diagnose it yourself.
