2005 dakota Fuel Tank

I have a 05 Dodge Dakota 6 cyl ext cab pick-up. I have a hole in my fuel line, went to Dodge today only to be told that they are on national backorder, fuel lines will not be available until 9/20/11. I need to make a repair in the meantime. I need to drop the tank, are there any pointers I need or should be aware of when removing the tank? Any instructions would be very much appreciated, thanks.

Ask, particularly NAPA for a repair kit if a line has a problem,

They make a repair kit for pressing fittings into that plastic line but the kit is around $200'.

Thanks Tom, the Dodge dealer told me to use some injection hose and injection clamps as a temporary fix. I'll inquire at NAPA this morning. Do I need to disconnect the battery before I drop the tank? Anything I need to know about dropping the tank or is it pretty much straight forward? Thanks foryour help,

No, I would definitely NOT try to use clamps and the dealer had no business suggesting that. I'm sure that came from one of their service advisers that isn't a tech and shouldn't be giving advice like that. That would be extremely dangerous. There is far too much pressure to trust a clamp.

As HT just said - no plain clamps! The proper repair kit should be available and done right not hacked,

$161 for the repair kit isn't a bad price considering how much it would cost to buy another vehicle because the temp rubber hoses with clamps didn't hold and blew gas all over the hot exhaust causing the vehicle to burn to the ground. You could probably turn around and sell the kit to someone else and get some or all of your money back.

I know your post is a bit old but I have a 95 v6 Dakota and was able to loosen only the 4 bolts on the passenger side and remove the 4 bolts on the driver side and the 4 screws at the filler cap and disconnect any tail lite wires.Then you can carefully lift the bed up and place timbers to hold it and have access to the fuel pump and lines.A lot easier that dropping the tank and you dont have to empty the tank.I am still having prob replacing the rusted steel lines on mine.Let us know how you made out on your problem.
