2007 Explorer ABS light

Background
2007 Ford Explorer (4.0L) had ABS light come on while driving. Once stopped, ABS actuated automatically and the vehicle could not accelerate over a few MPH. At the time, I had no diagnostic tools, so I removed the ABS fuses so I could get to an important appointment on time.
A bit more history
Previous owner didn’t rotate the tires for the first 20K miles and there was a lot of tire noise when I got it. I rotated the tires and the noise essentially went away. I just had them rotated them back as part of an oil change, and once again it became very noisy. Until today, I assumed it was just more tire noise, but after reading a bit online, I’m also wondering if it could be the bearings wearing.
Today
I borrowed a CEN-TECH OBD2 scanner, but there were no codes. I replaced the fuses, which reintroduced the automatic ABS actuating, and still no codes. I realize pulling the fuses may have lost codes, but didn’t have a whole lot of choice at the time.
Questions
Any obvious cause or potential causes that can be deduced from troubleshooting steps that someone could recommend?
Any tips to identify tire noise vs bearing noise?
I know nothing of the quality of the OBD2 scanner, so I’m wondering if it’s capable of reading ABS codes?
I’m marginal, at best, with DIY repairs, so should I take it to a dealership or independent mechanic? Any advice on which I should choose and how to know if an independent will have the proper diagnostic tools to efficiently fix it?

ABS cannot apply brakes. It releases them. Does your truck have traction control??

Your code reader likely isn't going to be able to read that. You will need a professional scan tool with updated ABS software.
It's probably one of the wheel speed sensors not accurate.

Thanks again Hammer -
I was assuming it was an ABS sensor, but hoped I would get a code to figure out which one. Is there any way to make an educated guess as to which one? I wouldn't mind trial and error, except I don't desire to purchase $60+ sensors that are unique to each wheel in case I swap the wrong one first. Any advice, or should I just bite the bullet and turn it over to the pros?

Unless someone outside the car can visually see which wheel is being braked, there really isn't a way to tell. There may not even be a code to tell you. When they are just inaccurate, that usually doesn't set a code. You need a scan tool that can make a frame by frame movie of the sensor data.
