2007 silverrado tailgate issue

does anyone know how the tailgate springs work on my silerrado. I have it apart and can manualy work it by hand (reaching in and push rods out to engage lock) can not see any broken springs but maybe i am missing a sping in the center of the door that i do not see? thanks in advance.

When the handle is pulled it rotates a cam the pulls both rods & the gate opens. There really isn't any servicable parts and is replaced as an assembly if something breaks in it...
