2008 Z71 Silverado Tire Size Change? Sign In

I have a 2008 Z71 Crew Cab Silverado. I recently picked up a wicked screw. It has a 3/8 shank on it, with 31,000 on my Dueler A/T and 1/8" of tread left I decided I would just replace the tires. I've decided on the Nitto Terra Grappler A/T, unless someone knows something I don't about them. My OEM size is 265/65R18. A horrible size to find tires in stock somewhere. Anyways, I was wondering if it is possible to put a 275/65R18 tire on with out having to buy new wheels?

You can put that tire on that wheel but i wouldn't advise it. That tire is considerably taller and will adversely effect the ABS, the speedometer, the transmission shift points and the fuel mileage. If you could find it in a 275/60/18, that would be a better match, same height, slightly wider.

I am completely ignorant when it comes to tire size. I thought the second number was the height of the tire. How is it that using a 275/60R18 would be the same size? I'm just curious, I will heed your advice.

The second number is the aspect ratio. It is a percentage meaning the sidewall is 60% of the width. You need to reduce the aspect ratio to counter the height you gained from the cross section increase.
Trust me. The size i gave you is closer in height.

Ok, it makes sense now. Thank you for the explanation.
