The automated retractable sunroof on my 2011 Ford F150 got stuck in the open position last week. I took it into the Ford dealer who says the track is bad, and the cost (for parts and labor) to replace just the track is >$2,200. That sounds excessive to me, any advice?

Arggh! Surprised they at least couldn't jam it shut if so. Not surprised by much anymore but is that a FORD option for this or aftermarket job or don't know? Not too many but most I fussed with had a hole you could force it with a tool that came with the vehicle. You really asked cost? If they are going to cut that whole thing out for another whole new aftermarket one I can see it costing that much. Horrible to say but create something to cover the hole as if it rains like all get out inside that's a real headache too, T

It wouldn't surprise me if it took 6 or 7 hours to do that and at dealer hourly rates of $130 to $150 per hour, you do the math. That's not the type of repair you want Billy Bob from the local tire store doing. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Thanks, he said the price included about $1,000 for labor, and your time/price estimate matches up. I also agree about not wanting just anyone to do it.

Asked but you didn't say if aftermarket? Many are. The dealer doesn't do them at all rather hires that out, a van comes with a saw's all and voila a sunroof is there. If factory there would be parts to fix it. Aftermarkets come and go so forget it they'd find a whole one to put in. Watched this stuff at a L-M dealer. A person like a vehicle and wants something it doesn't have and suddenly it happens. Last aftermarket the car was chosen by me for a customer but no sunroof. Customer and friend later complained that it made too much wind noise but otherwise fine and not surprised as if OE would have engineered that into it, T Last
