89 Chevy c1500 all gauges stopped working and battery died????? PLEASE HELP Sign In

I have a good running 89 Chevy c1500 that I drive daily. I just drove it around today just fine with no problems, all gauges worked fine and then I came home and parked it. Later that night I go out to the store and when I turn on the lights the buzzing noise for when you don't turn them off will not stop. Then I noticed all my gauges weren't working. I get gas and it doesn't move the gauge at all and then I noticed when I shut the truck off the radio reset. I drive home and after I shut the truck off the battery is completely dead, it would t even try to turn it over and the battery is good. I have no idea what happend and I need major help. I've never had it do this before. Any ideas please let me know.

'89. Anything possible but common IMO for this and actually pretty easy. Sounds exactly like your battery cable ends at battery failed almost totally INSIDE RUBBER NOW LIKE PLASTIC covers over eyelets. If you peel those back you'll see the problem - all rotted out even if they look fine while in place and you might have a good battery but don't know until you test things out.

You can't jump this to those battery bolts if it's what I'm saying as that just jumps the battery or charges the battery that is essentially disconnected from the truck.

Buzzing is probably just a relay that has such low power it can't do anything else. Nothing is going to work, clock and radio pre-sets all lost is a sign of a battery disconnect.

The fix: If this and this could be second or third time around at this age without total care of the cables is cable ends - good high quality ones that splice in or whole cables - do both but easy not to snap studs off starter or you'll need another if so.

There's nothing else to do but make sure this is all proper before blaming or looking for any other problem if there is any other problem. This is common for any that you don't assertively care for routinely (most never do) at least once a year.

Both ends of both cables. Use dialectic grease best, battery grease is sold or any is better than nothing for just these,

Well I found out part of the problem. I checked the battery cables and all was good so I started checking fuses and the gauge fuse was blown. So I changed it and everything is working again, it's charging the battery an all. Now I need to find out why it blew the fuse?

A or B. Fluke and this ends it or more likely there's a drain in something that fuse covers. Find out what that fuse covers by owner's manual if more than you noticed.
Seriously - how are you determining cable ends are in fact good? Just touching them to check might have been enough to solve part of this? You can look for voltage drop between the eyelet and the battery bolt while cranking engine for a clue and not conclusive if working fine now.

Another is checking for a parasitic drain on the circuit that blew the fuse now likely if at all. Could play hide and seek with you too dammit as when a fuse blows for no known reason and they can it might not show itself right now.

Stinks but may have to wait for it to do this again,
