92 F250 4x4 5 spd jerks back and forth when letting off throttle to slow down in lower 3 gears. 225,000 miles on this 460.

Run the KOEO and KOER tests and post back with the codes. Also pop up the distributor cap and see how eroded the terminals are. When was your last fuel filter change? That truck is about the easiest one to change and around 12 bucks for the part.

On my 6.2 L Chev diesel I had a problem where the truck would buck and surge, mostly on down compression. Sometimes called "trailer hitching". Truck would sometimes just quit running even on the freeway in the laters stages of the disease. Really nasty. Turns out it was just a one way air leak in a rubber fuel hose on top of the fuel tank. Air would leak in, but fuel would not leak out. Diagnosed the problem by putting a clear hose in the fuel line with an inverted loop. After idling a while you could see the air builting up in the loop. Don't run it this way on the road as the clear hose likely will not stand the engine heat and could cause a fire. Good Luck!

Maybe you and Hammertime muisunderstood. I don't care if it is a chevy or a ford or a gas engine or a diesel, if you are getting air bubbles to the injectors, the truck will surge and buck. Am I wrong about that? Just thought the information might be helpful. Sorry

Sorry, I didn't mean to be rude, but the OP said that his truck was jerking and stumbling, so the response was directly related to his problem! I don't know if that is his problem, but it could be, so I don't see what is rude. And again, do you think air bubbles getting to the injectors will not cause problems?

It's possible you could get air into the fuel delivery system from an air leak ahead of the fuel pump. It's not something that happens very often unless your running out of fuel from an empty tank or the pump is external and sucking air in from an air leak in the inlet hose. Besides if air was being pushed into the fuel rail, you would see drive-ability problems not just on deceleration.
