93 ranger stalls	Sign In

my 93 ranger has 280000 miles 2.3 liter 5 speed
it stalls, goes dead, and you have to turn off the switch to restart. it might happen 1 time or 10 times daily.i've put a new altenator, starter,, ignition module, plugs, wires, relays, and fuel filter. i had fuel pump checked its ok. it ocassionally backfires when you try to restart it. if you don't turn off the switch it will not restart. it will usually start right back up if you turn off the switch. it quit and wouldn't start back, i replaced the ignition module thats when it started stalling. it runs rough when taking off but usually levels off and runs fine until it just quits. theres no pattern or anything to it.

1st thing you have to do is check for spark and fuel pressure while the problem is occurring. I know it may be tough with an intermittent problem but that is the only way you'll know which path you have to go down to find the problem....

What sort of fuel system does this Ranger have? Carb, MFI?

Do you have a fuel regulation system of some sort???

Have you dropped the fuel tank and checked for rust and debre????

clean the fuel pump screen???

If it stays dead long enough to get test equipment on it and you find fuel pressure is good but has no spark and no injector pulse, an infamous culprit on these is the pickup inside the distributor. They are easy to replace, once you get the drive gear off of the shaft. Hit back and let us know what you find.
