i recently bought a 95 four runner, 3,0 litre vsix, single overhead cam,the temp keeps going up to real hot then back down, i noticed there is no thermostat in it and it still does it. there is no coolant in the oil or coming out the exhaust. it has a slight miss when idling but when given gas runs good. head gasket? warped head? blocked radiator? water pump? anyone

Since you found that there was no thermostat in it that suggests an attempt to make it run cooler which confuses the show.

I would put a new proper rated thermostat back in, flush out whatever it has now for coolant, refill properly and purge out air, pressure test cooling system for leaks. Then notice if fan(s) come on.

Run heater as that's a good clue that air is out of system. It still has some diagnosing to do to find the root problem and without a thermostat in place with no evidence of leaks you will need to start somewhere.

Note: No thermostat will make engine run cool in one end, hot where it's not noticed confusing engine controls and fuel delivery. Taking them out is NOT a solution to a hot running engine and can cause damage,
