99 ford ranger oil pump Sign In

PLEASE HELP!!!....I have a 99 Ranger automatic 2 wheel drive 3.0 V-6 My oil pump is shot. I have been trying very hard to get the oil pan off to get at the pump. All pan bolts are off. Motor mounts are unbolted and I have the engine lifted about as far as it can go. Starter is removed. Tranny inspection plate is removed. Oil dip stick tube is removed. Oil pan is free and can be moved around fairly well but seems to be held in place by the oil pump lift tube assembally. I can't seem to get at the bolts to drop the pump into the pan......Is there anything that I can do to get the lift tube away from the pump. I can't see how it is attached or what holds it on or is there something else that I need to do to get at the oil pump? I am at my wits end and I cant see anything else to take off that would give me any more room....Any advice would be helpfull. Please be as detailed as possible

Is the transmission now preventing you from getting the engine up higher? If you only need a little more see if that's a way to get more room even with pump all intact, T

Yes I'm pretty sure that it is the tranny preventing me from getting the motor higher. But i'm not sure I fallow you. are you saying to pull or drop the tranny?

Yes -- but I hope the others will catch this thread and may know of some other way. I'm not looking at this as you can and have no experience with a RWD 3.0 or what they might have done to the oil pan shape.

I'm concerned that even if you get the oil pump out that you'll find it near impossible to install new one in with the cramped space you are working with.

Trans should be fairly straight forward to remove for a RWD vs the extra hassle of working remotely to install new pump with pan in place again.

Again - hope some other way could be easier but I'm not sure. Good luck with it - I'll be watching this, T

Wink I'll got the answer for you...
1. You didn't have to drain your coolant.
2. Drain Oil only.
3. Loosen oil pan, get new gasket.
4. Remove 4 engine mount bolts.
5. Jack engine to maximum height.
6. This is the tricky part but easy....
7. Remove 2 front chassis mount bolts and the 2 under the carpet inside the cab...4 bolts only.
8. With a 2nd jack and something sturdy ( I used 24inches of 2" pike) or 2x4 or 4x4 will do.
9. Find a center-point up front and jack vehicle body away from chassis...you should see body rising from bolts...continue until desire height achieved.
10. 1st jack, continue to jack the engine and trans to correct height.
11. replace your pump.
12. Reinstall...REVERSE order...EASY...
13. IMPACT Drill makes it sooooo easy.
14. Troubleshooting: Were there many metal chips in oil pan base? If Yes, then it was not your Oil pump...IT'S your DISTRIBUTOR DRIVE SHAFT/GEAR THAT'S DRIVE YOUR OIL PUMP. THE camshaft turns this GEAR...THIS CAN BE EASILY REPLACE FROM THE ENGINE TOP.
