I have a 2005 chevy silverado crew cab, 5.3 gas. I have a steering rattle when driving on streets or roads that are not smooth. If I am on a smooth road it is just fine. It appears chevy had a steering colum problem this yaer model (and a couple other years). The GM dealer will not fix this problem any longer as my truck now has 115k miles now, and the steering colum problem is an old one. The rattle is getting worse, it sounds like something is loose in colum, but i can literaly feel it while holding the steering wheel. I would like to know if any one has a fix. I am not sure, but after reading for a day or two, I do not think it is the intermediate shaft problem every one is talking about, because it is not a "clunk" sound when turning, only a bad rattle while going over unsmoth roads. Thanks in advance. Tate

If you don't think it is the intermediate shaft doing it, then you'll have to determine where it's coming from. You can just unlock the key and have someone move the wheel back and forth, ever so slightly so you can see which part isn't immediately responding to the movement. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
