Dodge Axle Sign In

1986/ Dodge 4X4/ W150/ 318 V8/ Had to replace the axle u-joint. I always have a problem getting the gear to go back into the hub. I can get the gear started on the axle but it doesn't seem to mesh with the teeth inside the hub. It is not the first time I have replaced a u-joint but it is long enough between times I forget how I do it. There is something I do each time that makes it seem easy after fighting with it for hours. It is raining right now or I would trying something now. Yes, I most always work outside.

Re: Dodge Axle Sign In

Well, I got the hub back together yesterday. It stopped raining over-night and turned colder, in the 20's. I knew when the gear was on the end of the axle it was not centered in the hub and I was having a hard time getting it centered. Taking the gear off the axle, the axle wasn't centered in the spindle so I turned the axle until the axle was on the bottom of the spindle and the gap was on the top. I took a flat bar and put it between the u-joint and top ball joint. I pushed the u-joint down which lifted the end of the axle up and I was able to get the gear to go into the hub and mesh with the teeth inside the hub. Just thought some body might be able to use the info.
