Electric Radiator Fan

I have a question regarding the electric radiator fan on my 2000 Dodge Dakota. First off let me let everyone know that my truck is a 6 cylinder and has 78 K miles on it. I've owned this truck for 10 years and have never had the electric fan stay of after I turned the ignition off. About a month ago, my Daughter started collage at San Francisco State University. We moved her in on a Thursday. When I arrived in the city to drop off all of her belongings, I turned off the key and the electric fan kept running and I didn't know if it would turn off or not. After about 10 minutes, if finally shut off. I had turned the ignition key on and off several times before it turned off. I didn't want to leave my truck until the fan stopped. I was worried that it would run until the battery went dead. It happened again last night and shut off after about a minute. I know the engine wasn't hot because I only drove the truck less than a mile and it was cold outside. Is it normal for the fan to keep running after I turn the key off? Like I said, this hadn't happened in the previous 10 years and now it has done it twice in the last month.
Any assistance on this would be greatly appreciated.

The trigger control for the relay that operates the fan is controlled by the key so it shouldn't run with the key off. I'm suspecting the relay is sticking. I would try either replacing it or swapping it with another relay like the horn.

Hammer time, thanks for the quick reply. The fan stayed on again today when I got to work. I pulled the relay and the fan stopped. Will pulling this relay cause the Check Engine Light to come on? The Check Engine Light is now on. Hopefully it will go off after I replace the relay.

That could be what caused the light to come on. Have the codes read and cleared if that is the case.
