Electrical Trouble

I have a 1998 chevrolet pick-up k1500 with 150k miles it has a 5.7 LT. engine automatic transmission the problem that I have is an intermittent electrical problem, I loose all electrical power, to the point that the radio clock is at 12:00. The warning alarm that I left the keys in ignition is barley audible. This has happened while driving and have been able to restart, and other times it happens when I try to start and nothing, then later it will start. I am perplexed with this situation.

The clock has a "keep alive" memory so in order for that to happen, you have to lose all power to the body of the truck so your looking for a battery cable or other main power feed to a junction block or power distribution box. Check all the cable connections, even remove the cables from the battery and wire brush them.

Can anyone tell me the usual signs of the engine control computer failure, or trouble one may cause when going bad. I just want to make sure that this is not the trouble. I was advised by a local auto parts salesperson that that may be my problem. however, I have no idea of how to troubleshoot one, or what are the signs of trouble from one.

I just told you what to look for. Your computer has nothing to do with your clock.

checked the batt connections, this has happened while driving. After the truck is running does not electrical power come from altanater??? maybe I was not complety clear. This last time this happened I had been driving the truck, stopprd and shut off truck and was listening to radio for about an half hour, when I went to start truck nothing. the radio was on till I turned the key to start then dead everything, ten to fifteen mins. later CD player began to make noise even with key turned off, and when I tried to start truck it started. does this change anything. Like I said I have pulled batt cables from batt and cleaned, and also cable to fuse box, removed and wire brushed and tightened firmly.

If your clock reset, that means it got isolated from it's power source somehow. That has to happen at a power distribution point somewhere.
