High engine revving and cut out after throttle body cleaning

Hello, today I cleaned the throttle body and plate on my 1997 gmc sierra with 5.7 L vortex engine. Everything went great until I tried starting it... instantly revs up to about 35000 rpm and then the engine dies... this is probably quite simple and I apologize for wasting your time, but I'm in a pinch and couldn't find any information online. Thanks, G

? What did you do use a whole c an with engine off maybe? These run lousy just anyway with air filter/snorkel parts just removed and do stall. That has to all be in place and in good shape or all bets off. IDK - Some you can get air filter in all crocked and may notice bottom under there catches quite the odd debris - own one, this year to boot shocked at what junk - leaves and such are safe BEFORE filter and no clue why it isn't near leaves where it is but if all that junk went thru unfiltered would be trouble, T

That would be 3500 RPM. I don't know if you took anything apart that could have damaged the IAC but try the reset procedure first. If this doesn't work, try disconnecting the battery for 5 minutes. When you restart it it will relearn the idle strategy.
- Turn the ignition switch to the ON position for 5 seconds.
- Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position for 10 seconds.
- Start the engine.
- Check for the proper idle operation.

Thanks I will try that now... what is the iac? I was pretty careful and I don't think I damaged anything. Will try the reset quick here

First make sure you didn't leave any hoses disconnected or damaged. Any unmetered air getting into the system can do that. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
