Truck will not start

I have a 1988 Dodge D100 318 and I just had new timing put in all new plugs spark plugs distributor cap and button. Another gas tank put on and new fuel pump I think. Its been cranking and runnin fine for last 3wks but yesterday morning left for work and it just shutoff. Tried to crank back and it cranked but was sputting and shut back off now won't crank at all it jus turns over and not catch. Me and a guy tried to see if it had fire but nothing,tried from coil and bought a new one and there was no fire from it after holding wire close to it. Was told culd maybe be the module but its built into the computer I think. Haven"t checked to see if its getting fuel but one guy told me if its reading not getting fire it won't send fuel. I personally think its fuel pump but don't know,may even need a new computer. I recycled to check codes but it sent 5 slow flashes with 5 quick ones, can somebody give me some help on what maybe the issue so I can try get this fixed ASAP!!!

All "crank, no start" conditions are approached in the same way. Every engine requires certain functions to be able to run. Some of these functions rely on specific components to work and some components are part of more than one function so it is important to see the whole picture to be able to conclude anything about what may have failed. Also, these functions can ONLY be tested during the failure. Any other time and they will simply test good because the problem isn't present at the moment. If you approach this in any other way, you are merely guessing and that only serves to replace unnecessary parts and wastes money. Every engine requires spark, fuel and compression to run. That's what we have to look for. These are the basics that need to be tested and will give us the info required to isolate a cause. 1) Test for spark at the plug end of the wire using a spark tester. If none found, check for power supply on the + terminal of the coil with the key on. 2) Test for injector pulse using a small bulb called a noid light. If none found, check for power supply at one side of the injector with the key on. 3) Use a fuel pressure gauge to test for correct fuel pressure, also noticing if the pressure holds when key is shut off. 4) If all of these things check good, then you would need to do a complete compression test. We already tried the spark plug thing and there was no spark. There was no spark from coil wire either...its just not getting any fire to it and I dnt kno why. I thimk I need a computer ,so im going to junkyard IN THE AM and get one off another truck like and see if that fixes it. The ignition control module is built in the computer. I'm at my wits end on this. Ive checked distributor cap and button and all but still no fire. I even sprayed starting fluid in carb to make sure it was the fuel pump and it didn't do anything but keep spinning over

I gave you the process ti isolate the issue. Now you need to follow it. There was no power on the positive side of the coil. And there was no fuel coming from the fuel pump at all because I disconnected the fuel line and turned the key on to see if any would flow thru and it didn't...and also turn motor and still no fuel

Does your check engine light come on for bulb check when the key is first turned on? Check for flash codes by cycling the key on, off, on 3 times ending with on and count the long and short flashes of the check engine light. I cycled it earlier and it gave 5 long flashes then 5 quick flashes.

I don't know how to check the compression or how to tell if there is power to the injectors. I know there is no power to the coil positive side. One of the guys at Autozone checked that last nite with a test light and there was no power. He even pulled the wire off the coil and had me turn over engine and got no spark

? Hurting for test tools and equipment doesn't help nor a parts person (some are decent techs) for help. I wouldn't jump to a computer so fast and also don't really trust codes on the vintage but light works which is good. Not a Mopar tech so much from the vintage but you can still check some things. See if the dang rotor turns when you crank the engine with distributor cap off. If not you are in big trouble. If so blow the dirt/dust out of distributor while there or if no compressor use computer duster in a can no flammables. You may have flooded it by now and might (slight chance) have spark back and deal with a flooded engine then. Compression? If very low and no tools engine crank funny as in no strain of compressing anything, T

You really need to follow what HT provided. Forget compression for now and focus on fuel pressure and injector pulse. You know you have no spark. You won't have power to the coil if you turn the key on and then go checking for power because the engine computer doesn't see rpm and won't energize the ASD relay. If you check for battery power at the coil, you need to check it while cranking the engine. Get a NOID light at the parts store to check injector pulse. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
