Some are just a pest! Are you holding the pedal down while bleeder is opened and retightened before it quits putting out fluid? If not you could just be sucking air back in.

If all fails try just opening the connection lines a tad but again close up before air gets back in. There is a tool that applies pressure to master cyl that may help.

Hope others here may have some tricks or just maybe a defective part is involved but I never saw a lot of those, Good luck, Keep at it, T

Re: clutch proplem Sign In

I'm sure you wan't this fixed soon as it would disable the truck. The pressure bleeder (I don't own one) would be available to the trade tool folks like, Snap-On, Matco, MAC Tools, that come to mind. I borrow this stuff from friends in the trade and even a busy shop doesn't use theirs all that much. It's probably expensive like a lot of tools are.

I doubt they are rentable.

I can't even be sure this will work for the problemMad

Does this system bleed at all? Can you detect any action with at the slave cylinder? Maybe something is somehow way out of adjustment or a pushrod for these items is not hitting the target. Hard to say.

A trick that may work but promise me you will only do this with safe equipment and jack stands placed properly!!!!

......... Jack up back of truck as high as you can and see if that helps with bleeding.

Would be rare but sometimes air bubbles get caught like a soda and a tap lets them go. Personally never saw or had that problem but it was mentioned in my schooling so Looooong ago, T

Re: clutch proplem Sign In

I've tried it all I even found a clear vacuum hose and ran from the bleeder into a bottle
of brake fluid so I could be sure it wasn't getting air back through the bleeder.
I hate to just start buying parts sense the master and slave cylinder are new.
I realize they could be bad though.Do you know any place that would have a after market line.
It's over eighty dollars at the local dealer.
I really do appreciate your help.this is a real good old truck I don't use it every day so I'm not in a bind just
frustrated.

thanks again for your help

Re: clutch proplem Sign In

Hey friend! Sorry to respond with a question but I'm a bit lost and need to know why you replaced the master and slave cylinders to begin with.

If this is a defective new part the diagnosis is a nightmare -- rare but does happen. With two new parts involved which one could it be??????????????????????????

Again, does the slave cylinder move at all would help, T

Re: clutch proplem Sign In

I've had the truck for about a year, the clutch released right on the bottom ,and at times
not hardly at all.So I changed the slave and the master cylinder, this helped some for a while

I had a lot of trouble bleeding it then, but not this much. This was 6 or 8 months ago,

as for why i'm trying to bleed it now

lately the problem has gotten worse, the clutch would release fine one day and hardly at all the

next.I thought it could possibly had air sense it sits so much.Could it be the old line is bad maybe inside
the rubber section? The slave cylinder seems to try to move.

thanks again

Re: clutch proplem Sign In

That rubber flex hose can be an issue. Unseen from the outside but they can fail and make like reed (sp) valves on the inside which screws everything up. Same thing happens with brake flex hoses.

For brakes they can be diagnosed after they screw up. You probably only have just the one to the clutch and with the trouble you are having I'd just throw it out and take that out as the problem.

they can be a pain to replace with sticky and rusted flare nuts but this may be a problem here.

I've noticed other techs here are leaving me alone with this -- HEY help guys!! It's ok-- I've got the gray hair here and all the busted knuckles and all the cuts and bruises hopefully have something to help.

Just for fun: Remember that old age and treachery will overcome youth and skillSmile

Re: clutch proplem Sign In

One question I have that has not been addressed yet is the condition of the clutch disc and pressure plate. If they are worn out, bleeding the system will not help any.

Being way2old is why I need help from younger minds

Re: clutch proplem Sign In

The clutch and pressure plate might be worn I'm not sure how check
this put the clutch has always being strong enough, never afford to to slip.
The clutch peddle has no resistance at all it would release before just on
the bottom and some times hardly at all. This was before I got the big idea
that sense it sits so much maybe it could have just a little air.

I'm about ready to replace it all,I would try a new line first but would like
to find an after market supplier 85$ from the dealer seems a little high I think.

thanks agian

Re: clutch proplem Sign In

Basic test for the clutch itself would be to go ahead a start the engine in gear with clutch pushed down working or not the vehicle would start and go. THIS CAN AND SHOULD BE DONE ONLY WHERE IT IS SAFE TO DO SO AS VEHICLE MAY TAKE OFF ON YOU. DON'T EVEN TRY THAT IF NOT IN THE RIGHT PLACE!!!!

It's hard to know how worn a clutch is without taking it out. They grab pretty good till they fail which is fast at the end. They do get harder to push near the end but you probably wouldn't notice it over time, T
