hello i have a 94 s-10 with the w code vortec in it i have coolant looks like it,s leaking from around the timing cover it,s not the water pump or a hose everything on it is new ,how do i pressure test the system i checked with autozone they have the tool in thier loan a tool program but i have never done it before would be thankful for any help .

You simply attach it where the radiator cap goes and pump it up to the pressure rating on the radiator cap (usually 14 to 18 PSI), then look for leaks.

No, you shouldn't need any dye. Just leave the pressure on until you find the source of the leak. You may have to pump it back up if the pressure leaks down.

Cracked blocks are very rare and usually only caused by severe freeze with water instead of coolant in the system, however it is very common for the timing cover to leak where it seals the water ports. On that engine it's very, very common for the intake manifold gaskets to leak so make sure that coolant isn't running down from above the timing cover.

oh ok i was wondering if there were water ports or some kind of plugs under the timing cover thanks .

If no color to antifreeze you are using you should still see it. Use dental type mirrors after wiping it dry or blowing it dry to see exactly where,

this might sound stupid but everything on the cooling system is new was wondering could enough air be trapped in the system that when it gets hot it could have so much pressure it could be pushing coolant out because it has the factory type cap with no pressure release .

No, it's not possible and neither is a timing cover on that engine. A bad intake manifold gasket is a possibility though.

All caps release pressure. Their values are usually stamped on the cap. You are probably thinking of a safety release to release the normal pressure in a system before taking the cap off.....
I would have to agree with HT on this one...

well i sure do feel stupid i put a new water pump on about a month ago ,i pressure tested the system a while ago and with my light hooked up i saw a ever so small stream coming from where the water pump mounts to the right side of the motor thanks for all the comments and help guys i just thank the Lord was something simple .
