stalling problem Sign In

Hi all! I have a 2002 dodge ram1500 truck v8 5.9l with 162k miles. It hasn't been drivin in about a month and the battery died. After I charged the battery it started immediately but stalls every time I release the accelerator. It restarts fine and runs but stops immediately when I release the accelerator. Any ideas as to what might cause this situation?

The computer has to relearn the idle strategy after it's memory was erased and it may be having trouble due to a gummed up IAC.

You may have a bad IAC ( idle air control) but try eliminating any vacuum leaks and cleaning the throttle body first. Remove the intake snorkel, have someone hold the throttle wide open for you and scrub the back side of the throttle plate and surrounding bore with an old tooth brush and some carb cleaner. Be sure to spray some into the small holes next to the throttle plate. Disconnect the battery an reset the computer again when finished. That should help stabilize the idle but it may take a little bit of driving to relearn. If it still has a problem, replace the IAC.

Thanks hammer time! I will try cleaning the throttle body before buying a new IAC. I'm not sure that the computer lost memory since I charged the battery in the car. But is there a way to reset the computer? Do I need to?

If the battery loses all power, the computer loses all memory and that is what's called a reset so to answer your question, disconnecting the battery for a couple minutes resets the computer. It has to learn it's adaptive memory over again but I suspect you have mechanical issues in the throttle body causing your issues.

Glad to hear your issues worked out better than my Dolphins are doing.

You're a Dolphins fan HT? No wonder you've been in a bad mood since preseason.

I understand, its a rebuilding year. Like most years. But maybe Marino will clone himself and you will have a team. I'm a Packer fan so I feel the need to give others crap. Its just what I do. Don't feel bad, I have Marine Grunts cell number so I text him all sorts of trash talk during the games. He gets it worse than you for being a Bears fan.

Being a bears fan is not a bad thing and the last time I checked, the Dolphins were still the only undefeated team in history.

Re: stalling problem Sign In

At one time the world was flat and disease was caused by possession by devils. Witches were everywhere, man would never fly in the air and the Dolphins were supreme. Games and reputations are staked on the here and now, not the been and done. I always liked watching Marino take the field. He had a charisma and a fan following like when Joe Montana would be out for what seemed like forever on an injury and even though he didn't do a lot of plays when he first came back in the croud went wild when he took the field. He waved, the fans cheered even if he threw an interception and he went to the benches. But Marino was also able to get a spot in Ace Ventura so I guess he gets to be Hollywood too.

Marino was just a "talking arm". He was an awesome passer but couldn't move out of the pocket and was on a team that didn't have a running game because he didn't want them to. He was great the first 2 years but everyone figured him out after that. He was just faster than most. He held so many records because the team did nothing but pass.
