04 express engine roaring

2004 chevy express 2500 4.8 with 148,000 miles. About a week ago van started getting louder on takeoff. Is constant now and louder. Feels like a loss of power but gets to speed slowly. gas mileage is less than b/4 problem started Was told by mech, its a purge valve at gas tank. I replaced, problem persists. All fluids were checked,including trans. Roaring is in every gear including park and nuetral.

Check engine light on? If so, write down the trouble code numbers and post them here. Where does the roaring sound seem like it is originating from?
