hello, i have a 1999 1/2 Chevy suburban 4 x 4, while driving i noticed it would seem to have issues w/ cranking hard, then i got home one day, it was fine but went to start up next day & it would crank but not fire, I had replaced the fuel pump first because of 59 lbs pressure but didn't help, then an engine light finally came up, hooked my snap-on scanner up & 336 crank sensor code came up, cleared it & tried again & came back up again, changed out crank sensor & cam sensor sine truck has 135,000 on it, still same problem, turned distributor a tiny bit left then right, same issue, i had a oil pan gasket leak so i figured its time to fix that since it bothered me so got timing chain, gears & gasket set, when I took timing cover off I saw that part of the chain had broke but was still all together. replaced, & put back together & still have same issues. checked signal to & from ecu & crank & cam sensor has signal. i even put some fuel in throttle to make sure it wasn't fuel pump again, still wont fire & code keeps coming back. can my ecu be bad that quick with out a warning??? Lawrence

IMO it should have started if just a real 59 fuel pressure but close. Priming didn't respond so I suggest you check out more about distributor as you don't turn those to adjust timing and bet that's now the problem, T

Have you inspected the crank sensor harness and connector for chaffing, broken wires, damaged connector terminals, etc. ? Does your snap on scanner show engine data stream information? Where did you check for the signal at? Do you have access to a scope? Do you know how to perform a bypass test? Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

I just turned about 1/8 left then back then right 1/8 then back when nothing worked. so its back were it was at factory, & you can adjust contact if timing jumped that way.

checked signal at plug to ecm, signal there, checked signal to cam sensor there, checked signal to ecm from cam sensor??? all checks were done on back side of connectors & yes clips are good, if I get signal at both ends there are no breaks in wires..? thats why I'm here. been a mechanic on older vehicles since the 70's.

The question is is what does that signal look like that is at the PCM connector. Are you using a volt meter? You can see the presence of the signal with a volt meter, but since the signal switches so fast while the engine is cranking, you won't see the full changes in voltage, but an average of them. Forget the scanner. It doesn't have the frame rate to remotely see that kind of signal change. That is where the graphing multimeter and lab scope shine. Bypass test is really nothing more than simulating the signal from a sensor or computer to cause a reaction to take place. trying to add - I have not seen mention of basics. Something is missing OR I did not read correctly only code is P0336 - is there spark at several plugs? What is fuel pressure - yeah a new pump - but its still a needed step Did you try CKP relearn ? Have you checked (moved dist) CMP correlation?

I am sorry my friend - it is BASICS elimination.. THE spider fuel injection (CPI CPSI) is problematic AND its is hidden away inside manifold. The Dist were not especially an issue- nothing you would not notice. I would strongly suggest - I know easier said than done - fuel pressure check AND spark check at several plugs.. Putting gas into TB- I have seen enough fouled plugs that make that test suspect - as you are not making progress I would confirm the BASICS and work from the missing - fuel, pressure and pulse, spark, several plugs, secondary and primary sides of the system - That woould confirm the code AND give a place to start...

OK, you are using a red brick, which if you are not using the generic cartridge but the proper one for this should give you good info. Are you in generic mode or are you using the proper cartridge that can read the factory-specific codes. Look for either in current or pending codes for a P1345. If you have one, you need to go to functional tests and sync the cam/crank correlation. Going into troubleshooter and selecting code tips for that code should set the test up for you. Can't say for sure if the brick can do that. I never did one before I upgraded to a Solus Pro. But I think a brick with the proper OEM cartridge and proper troubleshooter cartridge should have that ability. As Kev pointed out, the likelihood of gas fouled plugs after so many attemps to start it is likely. You are using only Delco plugs in this, right? If any other brand they need to be tossed right now, ESPECIALLY if they are Bosch.
