I have a 2000 Ford e250 cargo van with a Triton 5.4 v8 engine. It has 112,000 miles on it.

I recently threw a rod and want to find a working engine in the junk yard to swap with. I was told that I need an engine from either 2000 or 2001. I am trying to find out why that is and if there is anything I can do make something else work. I am having trouble finding an engine from these years.

I would appreciate any advice.

No, you can't just start switching stuff around these days. The operating system is engineered to one specific setup. Besides, it's against Federal law to try anything else.

Have you considered a reman. long block?

There are quite a few difference between the years it seems. Here is an article on some of the differences between them:

Prices in my area for a used motor with a ton of miles are still over $1300. I'd get the long block and know you have the right one.
