Any advice would help on starting this 305small block chevy for the first time in 8 yrs. Would it be a good idea to prime the oil pump before turning over

Probably a good idea to remove all the spark plugs and squirt a little bit of oil into the cylinders. Then turn the engine by hand. Priming the lubrication system before starting would be a good idea. You may have to replace the valve springs, so don't be surprised. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
