2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 5.3L 190k The Vapor Canister Vent Valve threw a code in the OBDII. Replaced it, cleared the code. Drove the vehicle for few hundred miles to set the computer. Unfortunately, the code came back and had to replace the valve again. Something is causing the valve to go bad but, I don't know what. Going on 3 years since it's been licensed current. Fees are overdue but it won't smog. Anyone know how I can fix the problem once and for all so I can get legal again?

What is the actual code number being set? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

The actual code is: P0446 That is the code that comes up every time, even after the installation of a new part.

That is a circuit code for the vent valve. That doesn't necessarily mean the valve itself is the cause. It can be any related component like the wiring, fuse or computer. This would normally be diagnosed using a scan tool and smoke machine to manually close the valve and see if it seals the system. The valve receives constant 12v (key on) and the computer applies ground to close the valve. The most common failure point is the contacts at the plug.

So, what do I need to do to stop the computer from throwing the P0446 code? That seems to be what is keeping the vehicle from passing the smog test.

You have to problem diagnosed correctly and repaired. I already explained how the system works so you can troubleshoot it.
