I have a 2005 Ford Ranger Pickup with auto trans, 4X4, 4 liter V-6 engine, 80200 mi. I had done a break change, and the friction that Car Qwest supplied for this year and model was wrong. ( I got this info from a Car Qwest under body rep) After about a month of driving and putting up with a supper bad shimmy during breaking, I went ahead and bought new pads and roters, and replaced them. This took care of my shimmy problem, but I found during the repair I had a right side inner tie-rod end going bad and Ford recommends changing the whole rack out. This is quite an expensive repair, and I know I can do it a lot cheaper by just changing the inner tie-rod end. I have never done a repair like this and would like to know if it is possible to do at home?

It can be done but it requires some special tools to get it apart and it's not very accessible.
