The All Electric 2008 Tesla Roaster

The all Electric Tesla Roadster sold out in a matter of three weeks in 2007 when it was first offered for sale, all one hundred of them that were initally available. Not only is this car gasoline free, it is a joy to behold.

It doesn't look like any hybrid we have seen before. It can compete with the higher end sports cars in the looks department after all this car is styled after the Lotus Elise. It is a rear drive roadster with two seats, like so many sports cars on the road. But that is where the similarity ends.

It runs on lithium-ion batteries, a little over 6300 of them. The car can travel almost 250 miles between charges. The batteries alone make up 900 pounds of the cars total weight, 2500 pounds.

This electric beauty goes from 0 to 60 mph in just about 4 seconds, it not only looks good, it can fly down the highway at speeds of up to 135 mph. And with zero emissions, nice for the planet. The Tesla was designed with looks in mind. What good is an environmentally safe car if no one wants to drive in it.

The drive train in the Tesla is made up of four parts:

1. The ESS or Energy Storage System (The Batteries)

2. The Motor (weighs about 70 pounds with 248 hp)

3. The Transmission ( 2 speed electric shift manual and no clutch)

4. Power Electronics Module (PEM is in the trunk and controls motors torque, charging and regenerative braking)

Instead of waiting on lines and paying $3.00 or $4.00 for a gallon of gas, you can plug the Tesla into a home charging unit and it will be totally recharged in less than four hours.

There are other benefits as well. If you check with your electric company, you may find it will cost 1 cent per mile to drive in your Tesla. You do not have to pay luxury car tax on the Tesla Roadster. Soon, hopefully, there will be an income tax credit for owning one. You will have access to all carpool lanes even if your alone in the car. Some larger cities will even allow you to park at meters for free. No more tickets for overtime on meters.

You can also save yourself some money by reserving your 2008 Tesla Roadster now. The base price today is $92,000.00 but that will be raised to $98,000.00 on June 15. By going to www.teslamotors.com and reserving yours today, you will save $6,000.00. The delivery date is anticipated to be in the fall of 2007.
