Automakers Reach Technology Milestone

(NAPSI)-Automakers have more than 60 cutting-edge, advanced technology autos either on sale now or in development. These include hybrids, clean diesels and biodiesels, alternative fuel vehicles, hydrogen-powered cars, fuel cells and electric vehicles.

Automakers invest billions of dollars to develop and introduce new fuel-efficient automobiles. The auto industry spends more than any other industry on research and development.

Automakers are committed to help consumers fight high gas prices, reduce the environmental footprint of autos and address America's dependence on foreign sources of energy.

Because new technologies often cost more than ordinary cars, consumer tax credits for advanced technology vehicles can help accelerate the movement of these products into the market. Recently passed energy legislation will provide between $600 and $4,000 in tax incentives for consumers who purchase advanced technology vehicles.
