(NewsUSA) - Your car zooms down the lane of the indoor track, perhaps just inches away from your opponent, and then you move through a turn at breakneck speed. These days, you don't have to be a professional race car driver to experience this kind of thrill. Just ask the millions of Americans who tweak their rides with amateur auto racing equipment.
Modifying cars for racing has become increasingly popular in the United States. By the early 2000s, for example, the automotive specialty equipment industry was nearly four times the size it was in 1985, with Americans spending more than $1.7 billion on racing and performance equipment, according to the Speciality Equipment Market Association.
One recent addition to the mix is the CruiseCam InCar Camera Mount. Developed by CruiseCam International, this simple tool makes it possible for racers to record the entire race from the viewpoint of the driver.
"Being able to simultaneously see the things that are happening on the track and the driver's reaction to them is critical to evaluating the driver's performance," said Scott Watkins, president and chief executive officer of CruiseCam International.
The mount, which weighs just 1.5 pounds and requires no tools for installation, attaches to a car's seat headrests. It accommodates any size or make of camcorder and can be pivoted to a variety of angles within the interior of the car, meaning that racers can record how efficiently they shift gears or how quickly they react to a race's start.
It can also be positioned to record events happening outside of the car, so drivers could record their opponents' actions during a race or have a valuable record of events if something goes wrong. The wide range of uses that the mount can serve explains why many amateur auto racers are finding that one of the best modifications they can make may not be inside their engine, but right above their shoulders.
The CruiseCam InCar Camera Mount is sold online through the company's Web site, www.cruisecam.com. CruiseCam International is a publicly traded company under the symbol CCMJ on the Pink Sheets.
