Really Bad News for People Who Enjoy Waxing Their Car

(ARA) – Wax on, wax off. Wax on, wax off. In the 1984 film, “The Karate Kid,” the main character, Daniel, learned some of the hand motions he needed to excel at karate by regularly waxing his mentor’s car. On film, he only worked at it for a couple of minutes, but in reality, waxing a car is a job that takes hours to complete.
You have to carefully work the wax into every nook and cranny of the car’s metal, and then once that’s done, carefully wipe it off. Fast forward 20 years -- and thanks to advances in technology, there is a better way.

Instead of waxing your car on a regular basis to protect your paint, now there’s a shine available that protects your finish for years -- up to five years for newer cars; between two and three years for older ones. Glenn Canady, president of 5 Star Technologies, explains how it works.

“5 Star Shine combines PTFE, the same substance that makes nonstick cookware slippery, with durable acrylic elements to create a chemical fusion that actually bonds with the molecules of your paint for unbeatable shine and protection,” he says. “Once applied, the seal repels dirt and grime, including environmental pollution and the salt dropped on roads to promote the melting of snow and ice in cooler climates.”

The shine is also strong enough to protect metal from salt at sea. Canady says someone from the United States Navy contacted him in early 2001 about testing 5 Star Shine on Aegis radars. “The testing went so well, they’re now using it on the entire fleet,” he says. “If it can stand up to the harsh conditions at sea, just think what it can do for your car.”

Canady points out that the finish should not be considered an alternative to washing. He says you should still wash your car at least once a week to keep dirt from building up. And if you drive on muddy, messy roads on a regular basis, pay special attention to your undercarriage every time you wash your car. This will remove caked-on mud that holds moisture to metal and causes rust and body rot around wheel wells and door sills.

Each 5 Star Shine kit will protect 250 square feet, which is more than enough for a car and even the largest SUV. It can also be used to protect boats and airplanes.

“I’ve had people tell me they were so impressed with how the shine held up that once they traded their cars in and got new ones, the first thing they wanted to do was put a coat of 5 Star Shine on,” says Canady.
