Ford Fusion 999 Made For Speed

The Ford Fusion 999 made history as the world’s first car powered entirely by hydrogen fuel cells. The car has created another record by achieving the highest land speed records by reaching the unbelievable 207.297 MPH at the Bonneville Salt Flats. No other fuel cell powered car has gone beyond 200 miles per hour.

Created in collaboration with Ballard power systems, Roush and Ohio State University this car goes to prove that hydrogen fuel cell vehicles are viable. The Ford Fusion 999 is Ford’s latest environmental innovation and the indigenous design was by Ford engineers and executed by Roush.

The total hydrogen fuel cells required of 400 KW were supplied by the Ballard power systems. It was piloted by a veteran racer Rick Byrnes who was also working with Ford decades ago.

With the Ford Fusion 999 Ford is showing the world that they can create environment friendly vehicles that have no ulterior effect on the environment. The Ford Company is already building prototypes for the new fuel technology. They are running a trial fleet with 30 hydrogen powered focus fuel cell vehicles.

These 30 cars are a part of their program to verify and certify how this new fuel cell technology works in the real world. This was started way back in 2005 and these cars have collected more than five hundred eighty thousand miles.

The hydrogen cells used in The Ford Fusion 999 combine Hydrogen and oxygen to generate the required energy. This car is more than just being an environmental innovation; it was built for style, to look like a racing car. With its strong aerodynamic body that houses the dominant engine, the car has no mirrors and sports trendy mesh architecture.

This is not the only eco-friendly car at Ford, the Ford Edge with HySeries Drive Ford is currently being tested. We can also look for the hybrid version of the Fusion and The Mercury Milan to be available in 2008.
