Subaru STI comes with a turbo-charged Flat-4, 2.5 liter ‘boxer’ engine with a 296(220) / 6000 power bhp (KW) at rpm. The torque is 300(407) / 4000 lb-ft (Nm) at rpm and it is an advanced, symmetrical all-wheel drive. The stronger torque at lower or middle speeds is thanks to the variable valve timing in the intake and the exhaust system as well as the fast-warm catalytic converter for reduced emissions.
The brakes are ABS vented disc/vented disc and come with 4-pot calipers in the front and 2-pot calipers at the back and the system has been designed in collaboration with Brembo, the Italian expert. The tires are 245/40 R18. The STI is a world rally like car and it has a new suspension as well as a new platform.
The improved 6-speed transmission has lighter movements and a shorter throw gear change because of the new synchromesh.
The Subaru STI has four exhaust pipes at the back in pairs on either side and this reduces the airflow resistance by nearly 40% as well as giving it a great new look. It also reduces noise and increases power.
The STI has an improved DCCD or Driver’s Control Centre Differential which means the person driving has the option to select manually the distribution of torque from the front to the rear depending on the conditions of the road and the weather outside.
You can also choose between stable straight running and sharp cornering. When the engine is switched off, it goes back to the automatic mode.
And the price for all this? Well, it is expected to cost approximately 70,000 € when it is launched next year in Europe.
