The 2008 Toyota Tacoma – Carrying on The Tradition

A slight increase in price and a few changes – that is what Tacoma has in store for 2008. Yes, there have been changes but in most cases they have been more tweaking rather than total changes. Let’s look at a few of them.

The gauge panel has become two-toned, the seats have been redesigned, there’s chrome trim and stability control with an off switch. There are various models within this offering and the price changes accordingly. It goes from around $14,000 to $26,000.

Let’s look at the many variants: there are 18 of them if you count! So you have the regular 4 x 2 stripper cab with a short bed, the double cab and the long bed, the latest 4 liter model, etc. All of course, promise to be bigger and much more powerful than before.

It is a rather aggressive design, with the power it comes with going with this. All backed of course with Toyota’s reliability. Taking all these factors into consideration, it looks like it will be a popular vehicle for a long while yet.

It has a 2.7 liter 4-cylinder engine in the standard version and has 16 valves with 159 hp. The 5-speed manual transmission has a rear wheel drive.

The Tacoma comes with power steering and a tilt/telescope wheel. The all season P205/75R15 steel rim tires are 15” but you can get 16” ones in the PreRunner and the 4WD models.

The Tacoma has ventilated front disc and rear drum brakes as well as a side-impact door beam. There is an underbody mounted spare tire. The standard version has the anti-lock brakes as well as variable wipers. It also has an AM/FM/CD player and a composite pickup bed.

The interiors of the Toyota Tacoma are both comfortable and convenient. The reclining bucket seats are great. It can seat five and has split front seats as well as child seat anchors. It also has a passenger airbag deactivation switch. The upholstery is cloth and there are jump seats in the rear. The safety gear in all the models includes curtain airbags, tire pressure monitors and stability control.

The 2008 Toyota Tacoma promises a lot. Yes, it is in the good old Tacoma tradition but the new model seems much bigger, more powerful and much more promising. It also somehow sounds a lot more capable in spite of the fact that really not too many changes have been done. On the road a few months from now, if it delivers all it promises, it’s going to be a model to contend with indeed!
