98 Chrysler Concorde transmission problems Sign In

Hello, my check engine light came on today. I am getting codes p0700, p0700 p, and p1784. My car is not running in safe mode currently. I have all gears, but I am idling high at about 8 mph, and it is slamming into gear when it shifts. I replaced the vehicle speed sensors about a year ago.

Any help is appreciated.

P0700 is just a non-specific PCM code that tells you there is a transmission issue that needs to be looked at closer. I don't see the P1784 even being a legit code for that vehicle.

Well, that was the code, I checked it twice when I came into the house and couldn't find anything on the internet for it. I reset them and the engine light is not coming back on so maybe it was a fluke.

I drove it around the block and now it is shifting and idling normally again.

It's must be an intermittent failure. The issue may be with the scan tool that you are using misreading the code.

You need to take it to a shop that can scan the TCM and see what codes are stored in it.

I have this one. It was cheap, so you may be right.

link deleted .......... not allowed

Also, I looked around and it seems this code in similar chryslers refers to "p1784=automatic transmission additional L/R pressure switch circuit malfunction" not sure if this applies to my vehicle however, since I could not find a specific incidence of this code in a 98 Concorde.

Additionally i should point out that I have the 3.2 liter v6 engine it it. Sorry, I forgot to put that in the original post.

Links are not allowed here.

That is just a real cheap code reader. You need to be using professional scan tool equipment.

Well, it was what I could afford at the time when I needed it. Do you have a recommendation of what brand would work better?

That whole style of code reader is designed for the DIYer and are not even close to the $5,000 plus that the professionals use. You need professional equipment to read the TCM.

Re: 98 Chrysler Concorde transmission problems Sign In

Oh I see what you are getting at.

Yes, it is cheap, and it really doesn't do anything besides code clearing that I can't use the digital odometer trick for (don't remember how it was done but you instructed me how to get the codes off my odometer a year or two ago when the vehicle speed sensors went out), but it worked in this case. It cleared the codes and the car seems to be running good now.

I am sure the problem will come back though, so I expect to be resurrecting this thread in the future. Hopefully we can figure it out when it comes back since I am one of those DIYer's you referred to. Chances are slim that I am going to pay out $100 at a shop to have someone read it. I know, I'm stubborn.

Cycle the key from off to on 3 times quickly and stop at "on" to get codes but they will be 2 digit codes that are not specific at all and rarely any help.

Yep that's it.

Thanks for the responses. I will dig this thread up if it happens again.

Re: 98 Chrysler Concorde transmission problems Sign In

We don't know if the problem is resolved or not because the problem appears to be intermittent.

If you have a problem on your vehicle you need to create your own thread. Read forum rules:
