I have an 05 police interceptor and my code reader does not / can't read the engine codes, my reader is fine, as it reads from my 04 grand am. The reader did not even boot up before I replaced / added some missing fuses. This being a police package, is there any hidden or taken out fuse or cut wire I need to look for, to have the code reader work?,,,I am pretty sure my codes are going to be "misfires", I gap checked 1 plug and they are in dire need of replacement, .071 gap...WOW, plus car somewhat rough idles.

Check pin #16 for power

05 police interceptor, and it's the 4.3 or whatever ford uses in the police package.

I did NOT check for power yet, but as I stated, after adding/ replacing fuses-my reader now comes on, but comes up with the "err" instead of the codes.

It sounds like there is just a compatibility problem with your code reader. Try a different one.

Imagine that, you need a tune-up in the worst way and wonder why it runs like a bag of crap. Might do that first. You do need to fix your communication error, but I see you have been asked multiple times for specifics on this and can't even give a model or engine size. Its just from experience we know you have a Crown Vic with a 4.6 V8.

ok, well as with the schematic from above post, my NO. 9 is the HOT wire not NO. 16 as it shows on the diagram. could this be my problem? do I need to pull NO. 9 out and replace it to the NO. 16 position?

ok, I found another schematic and it shows the 9 and 16 in the opposite places, and on the other pic, my 16 is hot so now it might be my reader not working correctly.

No. Do not touch it. Pin 16 is the constant hot that will power a code reader. If there is no power at it no communication will take place. Do not go switching pins in that com link or you are going to fry someone's scanner and will need the people in the real interceptors when he finds out.

OK, well first off MAKE-FORD, MODEL-CROWN VIC / POLICE INTERCEPTOR, ENGINE SIZE-4.6 (STANDARD POLICE / CROWN VIC ENGINE) so yes I have multiple times given my model and engine size. I'm not sure if you are reading the other posts or if I am truly missing something, it's like asking me what a 96 impala ss has- I would tell you it's a CHEVY-IMPALA SS-5.7 LTR ENGINE and I know from plain old experience its a V8 -8 cylinder engine. so again I don't know what else i can say or tell you other than FORD-CROWN VIC-4.6, V8 POLICE INTERCEPTOR!

I don't know what to say on this response, it seems to me anyone who knows anything about cars knows that FORD is the only one who makes the 2005 POLICE INTERCEPTOR package on there CROWN VIC'S; I don't know but it's like CHEVY is the only one who made the 96 IMPALA SS

Police interceptor is not a make, a model or an engine size. We don't work from nicknames or specialty names. If you have a problem posting info as asked, there are other forums.

my point is, if these are mechanics, as I am, you would know FORD is the only one who made the interceptor package, not Chevy, Toyota, or Honda.

And most of this is irrelevant to my question on why my reader is not reading being the fact ALL 96 and newer vehicles have the obdll computers in them.

I'll end this right now
