i have a 2003 escort,zr2,i had a oil and filter change and a grease job, soon after the car idles very rough,it otherwise runs fine, but at red lights it idles rough and its worse with the air on,its a little bit smoother if i put it in neutral,i heard a hiss type sucking noise and found a hole on a vacuum hose from the pcv valve,so i replaced the pcv valve and the hose but the rubber hose has a 3/8 od hard plastic tubing inside the rubber hose that go's to the firewall,i cut it about 18 inch's from the firewall, put high temp silicone on outside oh cleaned hard plastic tubing and slipped rubberhose over the tubingand double clamped it.it helped a little.any ideas?

Yeah sure, go to the dealer and get the replacement part that belongs there and throw the silicone away. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

As HT mentioned, you need to get the correct parts for the PCV system. As for the rest of the problem, depending on the mileage, you may have a motor mount issue going on. While it's idling in drive (some else in the drivers seat with their foot on the brk) jack the engine slightly with a block of wood on the jack. If that smoothes it out, you have a mount problem....

Well now I'm not sure what hose you changed. The PCV hose doesn't go to the firewall, I guess I missed that. Some hoses it's ok to splice, if it's just vacuum it should be a dry splice, no silcone....

my pcv valve has a hose that go's all the way back to the firewall, the hose has a hard plastic 3/8 od line inside the rubber hose, the hard plastic line is molded, conformed to fit perfect, thats why he showed me were to cut and clean the rubber hose insulation off of it put permatex on and slide new rubber hose over it and clamp it,im on disability and it's hard for me to do,i think i made a mistake listening to him.
