I have a 1996 gmc jimmy that intermittenly won't start. This started in 09. I have had the spider injectors replaced, fuel pump replaced twice. the regulator. ignition coil and module. Work done on the manifold. New starter and sensors, filters. It starts for maybe 2 to 3 weeks and then 1 day, no start. There is gas getting in the spark plugs. 4 sets of plugs put in in the past 4 weeks. It hesitates when I press on the gas. but not all the time. It is at my mechanics now. 3 times in 3 weeks. As another mechanic looked at it 2 weeks before the one who put in the spider injector. now there for 2 days. they were working on it on and off. checking things I guess. he called this morning and said it just started up. he did nothing to it. he can't figure it out. He said I could come and get it. Obviously still have the problem. I have had 5 different mechanics trying to figure this out. When put on a diagnostics machine it comes up undefined code. I have spend over $4000.00. I am at my wits end and can't afford to buy another truck as all my money has gone into this one. CAN SOMEONE HELP ME PLEASE

Gotta be ready to catch it not starting and what is missing. Generally will lack fuel or fuel deivery or spark and take it from there. Does it at least crank when it's acting up? T

What is the code number? Must be a manufacture code and they are using an OBD2 code reader that can't define what the code means. Shouldn't be that difficult for a good technician to figure out what is missing when an engine doesn't want to start. $4000 what?! yes the truck cranks. just won't turn over to start. As soon as it happens, everytime I have gotten a tow to the mechanic.

When your mechanic gets the vehicle after being towed in, does it start? my gosh, what have they done for $4000 besides replacing the injector assembly and spark plugs? Why do they keep replacing plugs? Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

I have been to the dealer in 2009 and they put it on there diagnostic machine and it still came up undefined code. They told me to get another vehical. But I had replaced so many parts and spent so much money I felt like I had a new truck. If someone could just figure out why this keeps happening. I have to admit, I am sure I have gotten screwed with some of these parts replaced. But I am not a mechanic. I am dealing with this on my own.

Is the check engine light on? Even though it is an undefined code, it still should have a code number. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

.I have had the fuel pump replaced twice. by 2 didderent mechanics. in 2009. manifold work done twice 2 different mechanics. the coil module. tune ups after they changed the fuel pumps. The regulator replaced and ignition coil 2 weeks ago. spark plugs very time because they are full of gas. The truck is at the mechanic right now. He called me this morning and said it just started up. he did check things out but didn't do anything this would be the third time in 3 weeks. I can come get it. He said its getting to much fuel running rich, something about an 02 sensor, electrical and computer. But he doesn't know.

Hitting all at once with this. If this just plain runs for the mechanics and no codes can be defined it will be a pest to find and fix. Have an in-line spark tester and starting fluid ready. You'll need a helper to crank to see if spark tester lights and if so try the starting fluid in throttle body. Put it all back together as it controls sparks and you don't want a flash in your face. You mentioned it gets fuel but how are you sure? T

From what you typed they don't know if it is a fuel or ignition problem causing the no start because they are replacing parts in both systems. Can't really give you any repair advice unless you were working on this yourself. I can tell you that the truck has to be not starting to figure out what is missing. With the right equipment and an experienced drive-ability technician at the helm, it shouldn't be too difficult to determine which system to troubleshoot to isolate the culprit. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

the truck does not start. thats when they started replacing parts. everytime 1 part was replaced it would start. But 2-3 weeks later it wouldn't start again. so I would get another tow. They would replace another part and the cycle went on. I have gone to different mechanice once one couldn't figure it out. and once again the cycle continued.

yes the light mostly stays on once in a while it goes off. The air bag light also comes on but not as much. My first mechanic said to me when the light comes on, come in and we'll put it on the diagnostic machine I did and it still came up undefined code.

That doesn't make any sense. There is either going to be a code stored when the ECM turns the light on or no code. If the light is on and the ECM doesn't have any codes stored in it's memory is when you troubleshoot why the check engine light is on. If there is a code stored, it should be in the format "Pxxxx". The x will be numbers and P means powertrain. Most code readers and scan tools can give you a general description of the code stored, but sometimes the scan tool or code reader won't have a description of the code, so they will say undefined code. The code number is still there, but the tool doesn't have any information programmed into it for defining the code. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

I am a female and I am not comfortable doing thing like that on my own. There is no one here to help me do that. I am on my own. As far as the fuel. Years ago I did have the fuel lines replaced I had a little leak. Wouldn't the gas in the spark plugs tell me that there is fuel. plus the 2 fuel pumps and regulator. I don't know. Maybe I'm wrong.

I understand what your saying. Everytime the truck was towed in it wasn't starting. It is just frustrating that 5 different mechanics cannot figure out what the heck it is. the truck is still at the garage. I am just trying to get some advice to tell my mechanic to check. I told him this morning what I was doing and he said good idea. I have been searching since 7am. I am DETERMINED lol

Dang. No codes to help isn't helping solve this. Has another code reader been tried? Is the plug in vehicle messed up? Fuel on spark plugs if overwhelmed can flood out and not start if excessive. I know you are going broke with all this stuff and may need mechanic #6 to nail this down, T

If you have fuel fouled spark plugs, that means you probably don't have any spark. They need to find out what the undefined code number is and what code the ABS controller is storing. When it doesn't want to start, they need to connect a fuel pressure gauge up and check what the fuel pressure is while cranking. It has to be higher than 55 psi or the poppet valves in the injector assembly won't open. The pressure has to hold when the key is off also. If it has fuel pressure, then they need to check for spark output from the coil. If there is no spark, they need to see if there is power at the coil and the ignition module is toggling the ground. If they have spark output from the coil wire, they need to make sure that the spark is getting to the plugs. They can use a spark tester or oscilloscope to determine this. The spark has to be a strong spark, that can jump around an inch air gap. An oscilloscope can tell you the amount of voltage the spark has called kV. That system should be able to easily put out 30 kV volts If you have spark to the plugs and fuel pressure, then they need to check the injector pulse. This is kind of hard on that system because you can't easily connect a noid light up. They will have to current ramp the injectors' coils to see if there is current flowing. Something is going to be missing when it doesn't want to start. Finding that out will tell you which direction to take to find the culprit. in 2009 after 6 months of trying to figure out what was wrong. I had the spider injector replaced. It started up everyday for 2 years and about 5 weeks ago it didn't start. Do you think I need to replace the spider injector again. why would it be fine for 2 years and just start up again?

O2 sensor won't cause a no start, unless it is shorting out the heater circuit before the element and pops a fuse that the PCM is powered by. 02 sensor isn't trimming the fuel while the engine is starting anyway, so don't even go there. Check the BCM for theft codes also. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

What was typed above needs to be done first when the engine doesn't want to start. Can't start guessing on another injector assembly without verifying it is bad. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

I just hung up with my mechanic. he still has my truck I read what you wrote and everything you suggested he did, but he told me that the code came up coil 1 and coil 4 driver. he said that it didn't make any sense because there is only 1 coil. any suggestions?
