I'm having a couple of problems with a 1998 Cavalier. There's a squealing sound emitting from front of motor. Replaced the water pump but still hear it. When I put belt dresser on serpetine belt it works for awhile but comes back, belt looks good? Motor appears to run rough and surge up/down with A/C engaged and noise is worse. Thinking it's worn/stretched belt or possibley A/C compressor going bad. Car has 52,000 miles. Also electric radiator fan not working. Can see fan move/kick-in but barley moves, theres alot of play front to back on fan spindle. Thinking the fan motor's bad but not sure with all the sensors involved. Any help greatly appreciated. tjerick

Take the belt off and spin all of the pulleys by hand. They should not have any side to side play and should spin freely without any noises. If all looks good, try a new belt. Preferably an AC Delco to guarantee the best fit. As for the fan. Unplug the connector and install a test light between the 2 plugs in the connector. Start the engine and turn the AC on. If the test light glows bright, replace the radiator fan motor. (You may have to wait for a few minutes before the PCM commands the fan motor on). Steve
