Engine Blow by Sign In

I bought a rebuilt Toyota 22R engine for my Jet boat. Runs with a slight miss, and twice has blown the valve cover gasket out and sprayed all the engine oil out over the engine compartment.

What could be the cause of this. I am fairly mechanical but don't have much experience inside an engine.

Too much blowby past the rings,................ bad PCV valve..........

My thoughts exactly.... Since there is a miss, it might no be a bad idea to do a compression test

Thank you Hammertime. I figured it might be a stuck valve, but as I said my experience inside engines is weak, so rings sounds reasonable.

Second question. This engine was supposedly rebuilt a couple of years ago by a mechanic...... I haven't ran it much, would it take time for the rings to seat to stop this and how long does that take?

I would bet the rebuild was more of the cause than the solution. He probably just slapped rings into cylinders that needed boring.
