1995 crappy cav
Been trying to start my cavalier; it acts as if it's gonna start, but won't kick over. The thing is, after trying more than 100 times, I sometimes can get it started, but then 3 seconds later, cut it off, go to try to start it again, and get nothing. Could this be my starter need replaced? HELP! ......oh yeah, it's also slightly backfiring, not a loud backfire noise, when it's trying to kick over

You said it tries to start. Do you mean it cranks the engine but doesn't start? What noise does it make when not starting? The backfire could be from so many tries or other problems. What engine does this have? T

yeah it cranks the engine, and it makes noise like it's getting ready to start, but then i don't wanna give it gas cause of the fuel injector; it's sputter like maybe it's not getting gas or something. I swear everytime i think that it's gonna start. I believe that it's a 6cylinder, is that what you mean by what size engine? Don't really know bout all of that

I really think you need to check fuel pressure which can be done without a running engine. When it does start have you let it run long enough to clear up or does it just stay with this backfire of sorts? At any rate, don't kill the starter motor trying too hard. Let it cool between tries or you'll need one of those and still have a problem. The engine size should be on a sticker on top of the radiator. I'm not sure what was offered but a four and perhaps two different six cylinder engines were available. How many miles on this may matter in the diagnosis. Sorry didn't look back if you said how many. You may end up needing new spark plugs with all this trauma in trying to start this also, so go easy. Getting mad at it won't help 'cause it don't care -- trust me! T

Try the fuel pressure regulator, your symptoms are typical for this.

Well then start a new thread and take the trouble to give all needed info and an accurate list of things youve tried . It may be similar but no two cars are the same. LIFE'S SHORT GO FISH
