1997 chevy cavalier running hot

help...can't seem to get an answer...just had a head gasket and timing belt replaced...car is running great.. just noticed that the temp gauge is rising, not into red zone but rising...could it be a fan ,a thermostat,a hose or what?no leaks either what should I do?

is it steadily rising, like constantly increasing while driving??? or...is the needle just higher up on the gauge then you remember before the repairs?

thanks for getting back to me..it rises as i drive and goes up and down..the heat is working fine and so is tha/c...you don't think it could be dreaded water pump?from what i understand getting to it is areal pain...

nah when waterpumps are bad they either leak (youll see a drop in your driveway) or the bearing goes bad and makes noise
to me it sounds like there is still some air in the cooling system. some of them can be real stubborn. try parking on a hill or jacking up the front of the car. turn the heat on full blast and run the car with the radiator cap off the radiator.

Is the fan coming on at all or too late? What engine in this? By chance does running A/C bring temp down? That usually forces fan(s) to come on. Check that coolant is really full - not just at reservoir as said that can be tricky. Usually when heater works it's getting close to full and will slowly self purge air out over a few cycles of warm ups and cool downs but don't let it overheat waiting,
