Hello, new to the forums. I just bought a 2000 Chevy S10 eXtreme, 133k miles, standard. Anyways, when you push the parking break in it never "grabs". I bought it knowing this, but I can't find any information to trouble shoot it on the net. Also, the ABS light and parking break light will turn on sometimes when I turn the truck on and it'll stay on until I cut it off. Most the time those lights are never on, just occassionaly. I've gotten the parking break to grab on a few occassions by pulling the release handle and pushing it back it while pumping the parking break, don't know if that will help. Can someone point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance! P.S. It's got a 4.3L v6, forgot that part...

It’s kind of a ratcheting mechanism; that has a spring loaded pawl that locks the pedal in the applied position. What happens sometimes is that the grease that is applied to lubricate this pawl will go dry and act more like glue then a lubricant. The spring that pulls the pawl down against the teeth of the ratchet isn’t strong enough and the pawl won’t engage the ratchet. Usually spraying a little penetrating oil on the pivot of the pawl will loosen up things and it’ll start working again. If you lie down on the floor and look up at the mechanism you’ll see what I’m talking about. There is a chance that the spring is broken; if so remove the old spring and go to most any auto parts store and they’ll have some form of replacement spring. It’s not a hard job; it’s just an awkward spot to see and work in. Dan. Canadian "EH"

Sounds easy, as long as my fat head will fit down there . I'll take a look here shortly and will try to fix it. Thanks!
