Hello all, I'm taking a chance to see if anyone can help me. Thanks in advance! 2005 Pontiac Montana SV6 3.5 Liter 64,763 miles A month or so ago I had to jump start my 2005 Pontiac Montana SV6, and ever since 2 of the 3 Heat/AC knobs on the dash do not work. The speed control works fine, however the other 2 do not. The other 2 are the temperature control and the knob that changes the vent settings. Also when you push the A/C button it does not light up. I checked the fuses and everything looks fine, but that's about the extent of my ability to diagnose anything. Took it into a shop to diagnose the problem, here are the notes from them: "#7, scanned with scan tool. found codes B0248 air flow circuit, B0268 air flow, B0238 B3532 air flow performance, B0428 temp control, B0408 Tem. Tested and inspected, tried calibrating actuators. No change. Removed battery power from head, no change. Can command actuators with scanner. Needs new HVAC head. Parts and Labor $551.22." My questions are: Does this appear conclusive that the HVAC head is the problem? What exactly is the HVAC head? Is it accessable for your average Joe to replace on his own? Thanks! Mark

Yes, I was suspecting the control head before I even finished reading your question. You can't jump cars these days. Bad things happen. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Ok, thanks. Do you have any explanation for what the control head is? Is this the module that re-directs air-flow to different vents? How difficult is it to replace?

It's the part where all your controls on the dash are that operates the system.

If anyone has ever replaced the control head, let me know your thoughts about trying to do it myself vs. paying the shop $551 to do it.

The cost is in the part itself. The labor isn't that much. Some of the dash has to be disassembled but it's the parts driving it up.

Agreed, them control heads are way up there. Is there anyone rebuilding them? (Dorman, Four Seasons)? Safest way to emergency start todays cars is to recharge the battery. Never get your cables polarity crossed! Just for shirts and giggles I checked one out Auto Parts Warehouse. AC Delco, $290.

Could anyone provide me with a link to the part I should be replacing? I seem to be having a problem finding it at any online part stores.

No, links are not allowed. Just Google "Control head" for your make and model.
