94 nissan altima problem
1994/Nissan/Altima 2.4l 310,000 kilometers My car starts and runs fine but after it has been driven for about 20 minutes the radio starts to turn off an on. This is soon followed by more electronic failure and then the engine complete shuts off. At this point I can boost the car but after I disconnect the cables the car dies a few minutes later. The strange thing is if the car has been sitting for about an hour and receives a boost it charges the battery in under 3-4 minutes and then is capable of starting by it self. Unfortunately this recovery is short lived and the car soon dies again. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Have the charging system tested. The alternator may only be charging enough to keep the warning light off; but not enough to keep the battery at operating voltage. As the battery dies the electronics will one by one shut off, until the engine computer doesn’t have the proper voltage to make its calculations and then it dies. Every time you allow the battery to die; you are shortening its life. Dan. Canadian "EH"

If the car has been sitting for some time(abut an hour) the alternator charges the battery enough to start the motor. It does this in about 3-4 minutes, which is kind of strange because normally it takes longer. One other thing. I've experience a failing alternator before and the power decline is much more gradual but in my case after the radio starts to turn on and off I have about 3-4 minutes before the engine dies.

The EXACT same thing is happening to me right now. I've had AAA tow me 3 times in the past 5 days. Bought a brand new battery, that wasn't it. Brand new alternator...now its happening any time I turn on lights or anything electrical. Its at the garage right now and the first thing he said is "please dont tell me you got your new alternator at Auto Zone" hmmmmmm? So did you figure out what it was in your car? Please help??
