I have a 99 expedition 5.4 4wheel drive. I had to replace the dpfe senser. After that was done i tryed to start it and it made a loud clanging noise so i stopped for a minute then tryed again and all it did was click. So we replaced the starter/solenoid combo and the solenoid on the firewall but it still does the same thing. can someone plz help me figure out what is wrong with it? Thanks Tara

What was the reason for replacing the DPFE? Did you disconnect the battery or do anything else when replacing the DPFE? Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Yes we disconnected the battery. My truck was acting as if I had bad gas in it so i drained it the put some seafoam in it and fill it back up but it was still acting up and a friend of a friend worked for ford said that i need to replace the dpfe senser so we did that.

The DPFE has absolutely nothing to do with the engine performance. You need to go back over what you did because somehow you triggered this problem. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

we have gone over it several times. before we replaced the dpfe it would still start up and run. it just ran like crap. whatever that clanging noise must be something that has kept it from turning over. someone said that it may have thrown a rod. but we had taken off the gasket cover and there are no holes it and there is nothing laying down in the pan. i am at a lost here. not really sure as to what i should be checking now. Any suggestions?

Do a compression test on all cylinders, if theres a broken rod there will be 0 psi on that cylinder. -------------------------------------------------------- Your only as good as your tools!

They won't be able to do a compression test if they can't get the starter to crank the engine. Did you try rotating the crank by hand. You'll have to use a socket on the crankshaft and a long break bar. If you take the spark plugs out, it will be easier to turn. Hopefully it isn't locked up. If the starter motor doesn't even attempt to crank the engine( spin the crank), you won't be able to perform a compression test. If something in the bottom of the engine let loose and had jammed the crankshaft from turning, the starter motor won't be able the turn the crankshaft. All your hear is the starter making a clunk noise when turning the key. That's why you should try to see if you can turn the engine by hand. To see if the crankshaft is jammed for some reason. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
