I have a 2006 Hyudai Elantra w/ ~115, 000 miles (I dont know engine size). I noticed that some times my RPM need increases for no particular reason. I could be driving (or using cruise control) and for some reason the needle jumps up to about 4000 rpms. I usually tap the break to get it to stop (decrease).

I also noticed that my car chugs a little some times when I pull off (from a stop sign, red light). Does any one know whats going on and may be a price for the repair? Thanks for your help.

Does the engine actually rev to 4K rpm? Check engine light on? Any trouble codes stored in the engine controller?

Just for your information:
2.0L 4 banger.

Yes I can hear/see the engine rev up to ~4k rpm; No check engine lights or trouble codes.
