Check Engine Light

I have a 1998 VW Golf 2.0L and check engine light has come on, so hooked up to scan tool and P0411 (secondary air injection incorrect upstream flow detected) was the trouble code. So started checking up on secondary air injection, and ran across a EGR valve for my car that said it was a.k.a. Kombi Valve or Secondary Air Injection Valve. Is EGR and Secondary Air Injection Valve one in the same? And if so, is this the part thats faulty and giving me this code? Any help appreciated.

i believe your on the right track.....the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculate) valve takes exhaust gases and recirculates them back into the intake air to be burned a second time for emissions. most time they are just dirty and the pintle valve hangs up either open or closed. __________________________________________________ 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee 2002 Ford Ranger 2004 Toyota Corolla 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1

Ok....so let me ask this then, if the Sec.Air Inj. Sys. is the problem with code P0411 (incorrect flow), then why no other codes involving this? Like codes P0410 (Secondary Air Injection Malfuction),P0400 (EGR flow malfunction) P0401-02 (EGR flow excessive/insufficient? Im stumped

Or is it a flow malfunction is not at all vs. excessive, insufficient, or incorrect? Then just the 1 code?

honestly im not sure why its just the one code. unfortunately the check engine codes are only to guide you in the right direction of the repair....the codes wont say, valve B broken replace valve B..... your could could be any part of the EGR system. it could be the valves bad, clogged, lost vaccuum. or the lines to it could be partially clogged. __________________________________________________ 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee 2002 Ford Ranger 2004 Toyota Corolla 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1

You know I think your right about the pintle sticking opened or closed. Makes since to me that if EGR Valve, which is also called Secondary Air Injection Valve is stuck open or closed allowing gases to flow upstream then theres your trouble code P0411 Incorrect Flow Detected Thx 4 your help. I'll change it and see what happens.
