Clutch Problem Sign In

Hey im startin to have a problem with my 70 maverick. when you press down on the clutch lever it wont engage untill about an inch from the floor and then shifting into gear is a struggle and sometimes near impossible . if anyone has any ideas on what might be wrong or how to fix it i would appreciate your thoughts on it. thanks

I can't remember back that far how it is set up on that car but it's likely a cable from the pedal down to the clutch fork. Your going to have to visually inspect it and see if there is any damage to the cable or any of it's mounting brackets. If the cable is still in good shape, then look for an adjustment to shorten it.

There's always a chance that the pressure plate has broken internally and that will require replacing the clutch but check the cable and linkage first.

proaxe; I'm older than dirt, so to add to Hammer, there should be an adjustable piece of linkage where it contacts the throw-out fork. Adjust it so that you have about an 1/8" of freeplay between the adjustable rod and the throw-out fork.
